Men's Track And Field Competes At UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's track and field team traveled to UMass on Saturday to compete in the UMass invitational. The Crusaders finished in 11th place as a team and sophomore Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.) took home two top five finishes individually to lead Holy Cross. Davies finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.09 seconds and first in his section and fifth overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.32 seconds.

The 4x400 meter relay team comprised of freshman Mike Galasso (Danvers, Mass.), senior Stephen Madsen (New Providence, N.J.), freshman Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Patrick Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished in sixth place with a time of 3:23.82. In the 1,500 meter run, Madsen finished first in his section and ninth overall with a time of 4:00.63. Sophomores Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Dutton also finished fourth, fifth and seventh in their section, respectively, in the 1,500. Sophomore Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) finished second in his section in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.19 and his classmate Paul Coulter (Lakeville, Mass.) finished third in his section with a time of 16.25 seconds. Junior Nick Poles (Quincy, Mass.) took fifth in his section in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.37.

In the field events, freshman Nolan Kiernan (Wakefield, R.I.) finished fourth overall in the shot put with a distance of 11.56 meters and fourth in his flight in the discus with a throw of 37.32 meters. Senior Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) finished sixth overall in the triple jump with a distance of 13.49 meters and first in his flight in the long jump with a distance of 5.93 meters. Freshman Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) took first in his flight in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.28 meters.

The Crusaders will return to action on Wednesday and Thursday, April 18-19, when the team hosts the Holy Cross Decathlon at 11:30 a.m. (April 18) and 11:00 a.m. (April 19).
