Men's Track And Field Competes In Three Weekend Meets

WORCESTER, Mass. – Members of the men's track and field team competed in three different meets on Saturday including a meet with New Hampshire and Maine at New Hampshire, the Tiger Classic in Auburn, Ala. and the Wagner Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y. Crusaders competed in 12 events at New Hampshire, nine at Auburn and three at Wagner. Freshman Drew McAward (Garden City, N.Y.) finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Wagner Invitational with a time of 10:51.1 to lead the Crusaders.

The Tiger Classic included an elite group division I schools from large conferences. The Crusaders competed against the likes of Auburn, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Syracuse. Senior Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) and sophomore Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) finished in the top 10 of the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Altenau came in seventh with a time of 9:33.54 and Villescas crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 9:38.60. Senior Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) finished 11th in the triple jump with a distance of 13.76 meters. Sophomore Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.) finished 17th in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.48. Other top Crusader finishers included freshman Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) and senior Stephen Madsen (New Providence, N.J.) who finished 23rd and 24th, respectively, in the 1,500 meter run with times of 4:03.05 and 4:04.15.

In New Hampshire, senior Chase Bradford (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 50.26 meters. Freshmen Vuong Tran (Worcester, Mass.) and Mike Techiera (Foxboro, Mass.) took fifth and sixth in the 100 meter dash with times of 11.52 and 11.81 seconds. The duo also finished back-to-back in the 200 meter dash landing in the sixth and seventh spots with times of 23.90 and 24.11, respectively. Freshman Patrick Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) took sixth in the 400 meter dash finishing at 52.09 and sophomore Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Crusaders finishing 10th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:06.08.

At the Wagner Invitational, freshman Joseph Seebode (Clark, N.J.) finished fifth in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:41.59 and freshman Matt Muilenburg (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) took 14th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:27.74.

The men's track and field team will return to action on Saturday, April 14, when it travels to Amherst, Mass. for the UMass Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
