Track And Field To Host New Year's Field Day

  • The Holy Cross men's track and field team continues action over the winter break when it hosts the Holy Cross New Year's Field Day on Tuesday, Jan. 3 and travels to Rhode Island's Sorlien Memorial Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 14 where team competition will resume.
  • Last year at the Holy Cross New Year's Field Day, Holy Cross' top performers included sophomore Kyle Carr (Westerly, R.I.) who competed in the men's shot put and men's weight throw as well as graduate Tim Paquette (Malden, Mass.).
  • Last year was the first year the Holy Cross Crusaders participated in Rhode Island's Sorlien Memorial Invitational. They finished fifth overall and were led by Holy Cross graduate Chris Bergan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who placed first in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:55.54. In the 800, senior Stephen Madsen (New Providence, N.J.) placed second with a time of 1:58.96, while sophomore Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.) placed third with a time of 2:00.16. In the field events, the Crusaders were led by senior Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) with a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.89 meters.
  • Greg Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Mass.) was named the AT&T Crusader of the week, for competition from December 12-18. Hamalian ran in two events at the Boston University Mini-Meet on Saturday. At the Boston University Mini-Meet, Hamalian finished first in his heat of the 800-yard run, clocking a time of 2:07.10. He also took part in the 3000-meter run, placing 10th in his heat with a time of 9:20.30.
