Crusaders Prepare For Minutemen Invitational

- The Holy Cross men's track & field team will continue its season at the Minutemen Invitational, hosted by the UMass-Amherst this weekend. The meet will take place at the Track & Field Complex in Amherst, Mass. starting at 11:30 am.
- Last year, ten teams competed in the Minutemen Invitational in which Albany placed first with 201.50 points and host UMass-Amherst placed second with 135.50 points. Holy Cross placed tenth with 26 points. Senior Chris Bergan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led the Crusaders with a fourth place finish in the 5,000, with a time of 15:50.79. Senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) placed seventh in the 1,500 with a time of 4:03.72 and 18th in the 800 with a time of 1:59.99.
- Last weekend, thirteen athletes represented Holy Cross at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. Bergan finished sixth in the 10,000 with a New England Championship qualifying time of 32:11.54, while junior Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) finished 12th in the event with a time of 32:56.39. Junior Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) qualified for the New England Championship with a 12th place finish and time of 9:24.84 in the steeplechase.
- Select members of the Crusader track & field team also traveled to Durham, N.H. last weekend to compete at the New Hampshire Invitational. Sophomore Mario Alvarez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) ran a personal-best time of 11.72 seconds in the 100, as well as a career-best time of 24.36 seconds in the 200. Medeiros had career-best performances in both the 800 and 1,500, running times of 1:56.65 and 4:00.29 respectively.
