KINGSTON, R.I. – The Holy Cross men's track and field team returned to action Saturday with a fifth place overall finish at the Sorlein Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Senior Chris Bergan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was Holy Cross' top finisher, placing first in the 3,000 with a time of 8:55.54.
In the 800, junior Stephen Madsen (New Providence, N.J.) placed second with a time of 1:58.96, while freshman Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.) placed third with a time of 2:00.16. In the 1,000, freshman Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) finished fifth with a time of 2:39.40, while senior James Fletcher (Woburn, Mass.) placed sixth with a time of 2:39.63. Sophomore Nick Poles (Quincy, Mass.) placed eighth in the 500 with a time of 1:09.64 and sophomore Dylan Leazes (Providence, R.I.) finished fifth in the one mile with a time of 4:35.29.
In the field events, the Crusaders were led by junior Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) with a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.89 meters. In the weight throw, senior Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) placed seventh with a distance of 13.13 meters.
Holy Cross will travel to New Hampshire on Saturday, Jan. 22 for a meet with the University of New Hampshire and Quinnipiac.
