BOSTON, Mass. - A total of 18 men from the Holy Cross track and field team competed at Boston University's annual Valentine Invitational all day Saturday. In all, the Crusaders had three athletes top their previous season-bests to fine tune their performances as preparation for the Patriot League Indoor Championship.
On the track, senior Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass) clocked in with a season-best 8:33.38 in the 3,000, placing 47th out of 186. Fellow senior Kyle Rougeot (Torrington, Conn.) also placed in the event, taking 82nd with a time of 8:46.79. In the 1,000, senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) ran a team-best and season-best 2:33.15, taking 38th. Freshman Kyle Shepard (White Plains, N.Y.) followed in the same event, with a personal-best time of 2:35.47, good enough for a 55th placement.
In the field, Holy Cross was led by junior Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.), who finished 18th in the weight throw with a distance of 13.21 meters. Sophomore Michael Millard (Manhasset, N.Y.) followed with as 21st place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.89 meters. In the shot put, Holy Cross senior Nicholas LeBlanc (New Bedford, Mass.) placed 25th with a distance of 12.75 meters.
The Crusaders kick off the Championship season next week at the Patriot League Indoor Championship in West Point, N.Y. on Feb. 19-21.
