NEW HAVEN, Conn. - A second place finish in the women's distance medley relay paced the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn. on Saturday afternoon. The relay team, ran by junior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.), freshman Rachelle Sylvia (Westerly, R.I.) and sophomores Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) and Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.), took second place with a time of 12:39.62.
Holy Cross also had a top relay finish in the 4x800, with junior Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.), sophomore Alison Nadeau (Norfolk, Mass.), senior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Kara Bownell (Cherry Valley, Mass.) teaming up to take fifth place with a time of 9:52.12.
The Crusaders were paced in the distance events by a 14th place finish in the men's 3,000 by senior Kyle Rougeot (Torrington, Conn.) with a time of 8:56.63 and a 15th place finish women's 3,000 by junior Jacqueline Imse (Simsbury, Conn.) with a time of 10:58.88.
In the field events, Pruszko finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.55 meters, while freshman Nicole Hanlon (Lynn, Mass.) took eighth in the shot put with a distance of 9.57 meters. Sophomore Cassie Canastra (Rochester, Mass.) placed seventh in the women's weight throw with a distance of 12.39 meters, while junior Tim Paquette (Malden, Mass.) finished 15th in the men's weigh throw competition with a distance of 10.87 meters.
Holy Cross continues indoor competition next week, Jan. 15 & 16, at the Sorlien Memorial Invitational.
