PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) broke two school records to lead the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams at the Alden Invitational hosted by Brown on Saturday, Dec. 5. Reid reset her own school record in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.27, finishing in first place. Reid then broke teammate Olivia Prusko's (Monroe, Conn.) record in the 300 meter dash with a time of 41.03, finishing in third place.
Senior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) led Holy Cross in the distance events, finishing the 1,600 in fourth place with a time of 5:23.66. Sophomore Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) placed sixth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.77 seconds. In the field events, Holy Cross was led by senior Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) with two top ten finishes. Couture finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 10.94 meters and sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.90 meters. Rookie Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 4.76 meters.
The men's team was led by junior Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) with a third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.13 meters and a fourth place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 13.73 meters. In the long jump competition, junior Gregory Liguori (Norwood, N.J.) placed fifth with a distance of 5.86 meters and sophomore Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.28 meters. On the track, Holy Cross was led by top finishes in the 55 meter hurdles. Freshman John Veltri (West Milford, N.J.) placed fourth with a time of 8.69 seconds, while junior Doug Moringiello (Garden City, N.Y.) finished fifth with a time of 9.30 seconds.
Holy Cross will continue competition on the indoor track on Saturday, Dec. 12, traveling to Cambridge, Mass. for the Harvard Open at 9:00 a.m.
