Crusaders Defeat Hartford

West Hartford, Conn. - The Crusaders traveled to the University of Hartford on Wednesday, for Hartford's first dual match of the 2007 season. The Crusaders posted a 5-2 victory.

Holy Cross took the doubles point with 8-0 scores in the first and second doubles position. The Crusaders then scored the first three singles points with wins in the first, second and third positions. Matt Wierzel defeated Emmett Drake in the first singles flight (6-0, 6-0). Angelo Sica grabbed the next win from Hartford's Will White, for a 6-1, 6-2 win in the second singles. In third singles John Burke would take the win from Tim Glickman 6-1, 6-0.

Holy Cross dropped two matches in the fifth and sixth singles. Playing sixth singles was Thomas Steinert who was outplayed by Fil Miletic 6-1, 6-4 for a loss. In fifth singles Kevin Leggio took on Aaron Kooden in a tough match that was decided in a tie-breaker in Hartford's favor, 4-6, 6-1 (10-8). Dan Phelan would defeat Eddie Hoey of Hartford for the Crusaders other victory, winning the final point by a 6-4, 6-3 margin.

Crusaders compete again September 28th and 29th at the Connecticut invitational in Storrs, Conn. Time set to start at 1:00 p.m.
