Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's tennis team would see a trio of victories on the singles courts, but it would not be enough to win the day against Hartford. The Crusaders would lose to the Hawks 4-3 Tuesday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. Senior Marco Lombardo (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) won a close match over Emmett Drake. Lombardo took the match in two close sets, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Jay DeSanto (Dalton, Pa.) would also win his singles match. DeSanto defeated Hartford's Aaron Koodon in a convincing straight set victory, 6-3, 6-0. DeSanto and doubles partner senior Tom Moran (Concord, N.H.) would win their match by default. That wouldn't be Moran's only victory by default on the day. He was also credited with a default singles win.
The doubles pair of sophomore Angelo Sica (Chester, N.J.) and senior Brian Kelly (Winchester, Mass.) would lose their match to Artur Muller and Jeff Cote by a score of 8-1. Their day on the singles court would not get much better. Kelly would lose to Muller again, this time by default. Sica would go on to lose to Dori Baglan in two sets, 6-3, 6-1. Lombardo and doubles partner freshman John Burke (Burlington, Mass.) would also be defeated in their match against Baglan and and Drake, 8-1.
The Crusaders move to a 1-1 record on the fall, while the Hawks start out their season 1-0. The men's tennis team is back on the courts Saturday, September 23 taking on Siena in Worcester, Mass. Matches begin at 10:00 AM.
