HC Falls To Coast Guard, 6-3

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's tennis team fell to Coast Guard, 6-3, in the Crusaders' season-opener on Saturday afternoon. Holy Cross starts the season, 0-1, while the Bears improve to 1-1.

No. 1 singles player, sophomore Matt Wierzel (Garden City, N.Y.) defeated Chris Pappe in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, while freshman Chris Das (Melrose, Mass.) won in his first collegiate match, defeating Tim Ozimek, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles match. Holy Cross' No. 2 doubles team of seniors Angelo Sica (Chester, N.J.) and Jay DeSanto (Dalton, Pa.) defeated Pappe and Wesley Figaro, 8-6.

The Crusaders return to action on Sept. 20-21, when it competes at the Scott Satran Tournament in Flushing, N.Y.
