Tennis Opens Fall Season At Fairfield Doubles Festival

Fairfield, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's and women's teams competed this past weekend in the Fairfield University Doubles Invitational. Reaching the finals of Pool C doubles, Margaret Moran (Concord, N.H.) and Meredith Bacon (Hanover, N.H.) were the best finish overall. Also, the Pool A combination of Carrie Simmons (Raynham, Mass.) and Kerry Trimmer (Spring Lake, N.J.) took third with a 2-1 record. On the men's side, the team of Marco Lombardo (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and Jerome DeSanto (Dalton, Pa.) took fifth in Pool B.

Women

Pool A Doubles - Holy Cross (Carrie Simmons / Kerry Trimmer) def. Rhode Island 8-3 Holy Cross def. Albany 9-7 Connecticut def. Holy Cross 8-3 Stony Brook def. Holy Cross 8-3 Holy Cross finishes third.

Pool B Doubles - Providence def. Holy Cross (Katie Irwin / Amy Garrity) 8-1 Fairfield def. Holy Cross 8-3 Connecticut def. Holy Cross 8-1 Holy Cross finishes eighth.

Pool C Doubles - Sacred Heart def. Holy Cross (Margaret Moran / Katie Guarino) 8-4 Holy Cross (Moran / Meredith Bacon) def. Albany 8-5 Holy Cross (Moran / Guarino) def. Fairfield 8-6 Holy Cross (Moran / Bacon) def. Stony Brook 8-3 Albany def. Holy Cross (Moran / Bacon) 8-2 Holy Cross finishes second.

Men

Pool A Doubles - Quinnipiac def. Holy Cross (Brian Kelly / Reid Feller) 8-1 Connecticut def. Holy Cross 9-8 (5) Fairfield def. Holy Cross 8-4 Sacred Heart def. Holy Cross 8-6 Holy Cross finishes eighth.

Pool B Doubles - Holy Cross (Marco Lombardo / Jerome DeSanto) def. Hartford 8-3 Fairfield def. Holy Cross 8-4 Connecticut def. Holy Cross 8-1 Holy Cross def. Sacred Heart 8-6 Holy Cross finishes fifth.

Pool C Doubles - Fairfield def. Holy Cross (Tom Moran / Colin Missett) 8-4 Sacred Heart def. Holy Cross (Moran / John Deaver) 8-6 Quinnipiac def. Holy Cross (Moran / Missett) 8-0 Hartford def. Holy Cross (Moran Missett) 8-6 Holy Cross finishes eighth.

The men and women with both resume play again on Wednesday, September 14th against the University of Hartford at 4:00 p.m in Hartford.
