Crusaders Compete At Fairfield Doubles Festival

Fairfield, Conn.- The Crusaders continued their season by competing at the Fairfield Doubles Festival on Sunday. There were three flights, with each flight holding two pools, playing round robin.
In the first flight, the Crusaders took third place. Junior Angelo Sica and sophomore John Burke paired up to defeat Queens 8-5 in their first match. Next they were defeated by the University of Connecticut 8-3, before falling to Fairfield 8-0.
In flight two, freshman Matt Wierzel and freshman Kevin Leggio took third place in their pool. They started the day out by dropping a pair of matches to Quinnipiac (8-5) and Connecticut (8-5). They later beat Hartford 8-2. After their win, they competed in the fifth place match where they were defeated by the University of Rhode Island 8-2.
In flight three, senior Matthew Vicidomino and sophomore Dan Phelan took third in their pool. after falling to Fairfield 8-1 in their opening match, they defeated Hartford 8-6. Later on they dropped their match to the University of Rhode Island 8-2, before being defeated in the fifth place match by Quinnipiac 9-8 in a tiebreaker.
The Crusaders will play again September 16th in Norton, Mass., for the Wheaton Invitational. The start time is set for 9:00 a.m.
