Men's Tennis Rolls Past WPI, 6-1, At Home

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's tennis was able to pick up their second win of the spring season in a dominating effort over WPI on Friday afternoon. The Crusaders swept all three doubles matches and won five of six in singles to cruise 6-1.

Fellow seniors John Deaver (St. Louis, Mo.) and Colin Missett (Southington, Conn.) paired up to shut out Phil Roy and Brendan McNeil at second doubles by a score of 8-0.

Both Deaver and Missett went on to win their singles matches later in the afternoon. Deaver defeated Mike Diamante in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Missett cruised in his match against Roy by a score of 6-2, 6-2.

At first doubles, the freshman combination of Angelo Sica (Chester, N.J.) and Jay DeSanto (Dalton, Pa.) was also victorious in their match with Diamante and Andras Sacre by a score of 8-3.

The Crusaders were able to sweep the doubles matches and pick up a match point as sophomore Brian Egan (Wellesley, Mass.) and junior John Pratico (West Brookfield, Mass.) also won 8-4 in the third spot.

Junior Marco Lombardo (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) took the second singles match over Sacre in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Fellow junior Tom Moran (Concord, N.H.) also picked up a win, defeating Ryan Buckley 6-1, 6-0 in third singles.

Freshman Brendan McElhenny (Huntington, N.Y.) got the win at sixth singles against Shinya Iguchi to round out the Crusader scoring on the day.

The Holy Cross men's tennis team will travel to Boston to take on Boston University on Sunday, April 23 at 12:00 p.m.
