WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Holy Cross men's and women's tennis teams were both defeated by Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The women fell to the Leopards 5-2, while the men were defeated 7-0.
On the men's side, the Leopards swept all six singles matches, in addition to taking all three doubles matches. Angelo Sica had the best showing for the Crusaders, dropping a 6-3, 6-3 match to Paul Guarino at No. 1 singles.
For the women, the Crusaders took the doubles points with a pair of victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ivette Konopka and Kristen Meahl teamed up for an 8-3 win over Julia Strang and Jacqui Bonard at the No. 2 spot, while Paige Brown and Natalie Lin downed Sarah Sykes and Nancy Parker 8-5 at No. 3. Holy Cross also picked up a victory in the No. 6 singles match, where Melanie Bunke downed Bonder 6-3, 6-3.
The Holy Cross women are set to return to action on Sunday, April 1, when they take part in the Wheaton Invitational. The men are scheduled to return to the court on Friday, March 30, when the play host to Fordham at 3:00 p.m.
