Men’s Tennis Competes In Conn. College Tournament

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Holy Cross sophomore Rich DeGregoris (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) won both his singles and doubles flights at the Connecticut College Tournament on September 14. This was the second team tournament for the Crusaders during their fall season.

In the Flight D singles competition, DeGregoris won his first match versus Wheaton, 7-6, 6-3, before earning a tough-fought victory over Connecticut College, 6-2, 2-6, (10-6) in the finals. He also paired up with senior captain Chris Brosnan (Garden City, N.Y.) to win the B Flight doubles championship. The duo won their first match over Coast Guard, 8-3, before defeating Conn. College in the finals, 9-8.

Holy Cross sophomore Charles Volkwein (Surry, Maine.) claimed the E Flight singles championship, winning matches over Coast Guard (6-4, 6-2) and Roger Williams (7-5, 6-4). Freshman Jimmy Ye (Boston, Mass.) lost in the B Flight singles finals, 6-3, 6-1 to Coast Guard, while classmate Pat O'Shea (Wilbraham, Mass.) also lost in the C Flight singles championship, 6-3, 6-2, to Conn. College.

The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, Sept 19, when they will host their 2013-2014 home opener at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility versus Coast Guard at 3:30 p.m.
