EASTON, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's tennis team kicked off its fall season on Sept. 7 at the Stonehill Doubles Invitational held at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts. Senior captain Chris Brosnan (Garden City, N.Y.) and sophomore Rich DeGregoris (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) were defeated in the B flight championship.
Senior captain Ryan Sullivan (Medfield, Mass.) and freshman Jimmy Ye (Boston, Mass.) were defeated in the A flight consolation final, while senior Brandon Ynayan (New York, N.Y.) and junior Rob Buetti (Bay Shore, N.Y.) were defeated in the C flight consolation final.
Brosnan and DeGregoris advanced to the B flight championship by defeating Assumption College with an 8-3 score and then beat Southern New Hampshire, 9-7, in the B flight semifinals. Alongside partner Rich DeGregoris, Brosnan was defeated by his brother, Will Brosnan and Jared Drzal of Stonehill in the B flight championship. Brosnan and DeGregoris lost their match by a score of 8-4.
Although Sullivan and Ye, and Ynanan and Buetti were defeated in the quarterfinals of their respective flight, each pair managed to win their next match to put them into the consolation final of the A and C flights. Sullivan and Ye were defeated by Post University by a score of 8-1 in the A flight consolation final, while Ynanan and Buetti lost in the C flight consolation by Springfield College by a score of 9-7.
Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, September 13, when it will head back to Easton, Mass. to play Stonehill in its second match of the season.
