Men's Tennis Ready For Fall Slate To Begin

  • The Holy Cross men's tennis team opens up its 2011 fall slate when it plays in the Stonehill Doubles Tournament, hosted by Stonehill on Saturday, Sept. 10. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. in Easton, Mass. and features Stonehill, Holy Cross and Nichols. The Crusader last played in a tournament at Stonehill in October of 2009, finishing second of six teams. Recent graduate Matt Wierzel won the No. 1 singles bracket.
  • The 2011-2012 Holy Cross squad returns 11 letterwinners, including seniors Chris Das (Melrose, Mass.), Tim Regan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Ajeya Shekar (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Das and Shekar combined for five wins in their respective singles play as juniors and also went 3-14 together in doubles competition. Regan returns to the team after not competing last year.
  • Sophomore Ryan Sullivan (Medfield, Mass.) returns as the team's top performer from last season, recording an overall record of 8-14 in singles play. He also recorded four wins with Wierzel as the team's No. 1 doubles pairing.
  • One newcomer dons the 2011-2012 roster as freshman Nick Berrettini (Haverford, Pa.) joins the squad. He played four seasons of varsity tennis at the Haverford School and was ranked as one of the top five singles players in his league as a sophomore and junior.
