Crusaders Ready For Patriot League Play

- The Holy Cross men's tennis team opens up Patriot League play this upcoming weekend, traveling to West Point, N.Y. for three matches against host Army, Lafayette and Lehigh. Holy Cross first plays Army at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Two matches follow on Saturday with the Crusaders playing Lafayette first at 9:00 a.m. and then Lehigh at 4:00 p.m. All matches will be played on Army's Malek Courts.
- Army is 6-9 on the spring and enters Saturday's match on a two-game losing streak. The team lost seven matches in a row before winning five straight matches and losing the last two. The Black Knights will next host the Crusaders on Saturday. Holy Cross has lost to Army in the last five meetings, including a 7-0 defeat last season.
- Lafayette is 5-5 on the season, including a 3-5 record this spring after topping Caltech the last time out. The Leopards will play Delaware before traveling to West Point, where they will first play Army and then the Crusaders. Lafayette swept the Crusaders last season and won 6-1 two years ago. Senior Matt Wierzel (Garden City, N.Y.) won the No. 1 singles match in 2009, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
- Lehigh is 9-4 on the spring season and are on a two-game win streak, last beating St. Joseph's 6-1. The Mountain Hawks will next compete against the Crusaders on Saturday. Last year, Holy Cross lost to Lehigh 6-1 in West Point as sophomore Scot Brownell (Plymouth, Mass.) won his No. 6 singles match by default.
