STORRS, Conn. - Junior tennis player Matt Wierzel (Garden City, N.Y.) advanced two more rounds Saturday to reach the Connecticut Invitational Flight A Singles final. This is the farthest any Holy Cross player has gone in the Invitational in program history.
Wierzel topped Connecticut's Scott Warden in the quarterfinals round, 3-6, 6-4, 13-11. He then beat Bryant's Cristian Balestrieri in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-1 in the semifinals. Wierzel will take on another Bryant opponent, Juan-Martin Paredes, on Sunday, Sept. 27.
