Matt Wierzel Falls In Championship At Connecticut Invitational

STORRS, Conn. - In the final day of action at the Connecticut Tennis Invitational, Holy Cross junior tennis player Matt Wierzel (Garden City, N.Y.) dropped his first singles match of the season in the tournament's Flight A Singles Championship game to Bryant's Juan-Martin Parades, 6-0, 6-2.

With the lone loss, Wierzel holds a most impressive 12-1 record in singles play this fall. His 12 wins are already three more than his 9-13 singles record from the entire 2008-2009 season. Wierzel went into the match having won six out of seven sets, topping Boston University's Jeff Chudacoff, Connecticut's Scott Warden and Bryant's Cristian Balestrieri.

Wierzel and the rest of the Holy Cross men's tennis team will continue their campaign as they compete in the third tournament of the fall, the Stonehill Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 4. Matches will be played in Easton, Mass. beginning at 10:00 a.m.
