  • The Holy Cross men's tennis team plays in its second-to-last dual-meet of the fall season on Thursday Oct. 8. The men will match-up with Merrimack on their home courts starting at 4:00 p.m. in Worcester, Mass. Merrimack is coming off a team victory at the Stonehill Invitational from this past weekend. The teams last met in the fall of 2006 where Holy Cross earned a home victory, 5-2. Senior John Burke (Burlington, Mass.) was the only member of this year's roster who competed in the match, winning his doubles set with former player Marco Lombardo.
  • Junior Matt Wierzel (Garden City, N.Y.) is now six wins over his singles record from the entire 2008-2009 season. Wierzel won three-straight matches at the Stonehill Invitational this past weekend, winning his second tournament title of the fall. This is the first year that Wierzel has ever taken home a title for the Holy Cross tennis team and now holds a 15-1 singles record in overall match play this season.
  • Freshman Scot Brownell (Plymouth, Mass.) made his Holy Cross debut at the Stonehill Invitational, winning his first collegiate match. In high school at BC High, Brownell played at No. 1 singles his sophomore year and at No. 2 singles his junior and senior years. He finished with a 14-2 record at No. 2 singles his senior year, a team-best record. For his accomplishments, Brownell earned second team Catholic Conference All-Star honors after completion of the 2009 spring season.
