Holy Cross Men's Tennis Prepares for Siena

  • The Holy Cross men's tennis team plays in its second dual-meet of the fall season this upcoming Sunday, Sept. 20.  The match is the first meeting between the teams since 2007 when the Saints topped the Crusaders 7-0. Matches are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Park tennis courts in Schenectady, N.Y.
  • Matt Wierzel looks to continue his unbeaten streak in singles play as he is now 5-0 on the season. He played in four consecutive matches at the Wheaton Invitational on Sunday, winning all the way through to take home the Wheaton Tennis Invitational Championship singles title. Wierzel is just four wins shy of tying his wins from the entire 2008-2009 season.
  • The Crusaders have won a total of seven singles and doubles matches this fall. They are just three wins away from tying their 10 victories from the 2008 fall season. Other players picking up wins for Holy Cross are sophomore Chris Das (Melrose, Mass.) and the doubles team of senior Tom Steinert (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore Dan Sheehan (Huntington N.Y.)
  • With the final roster set, this year's 2009-2010 tennis squad boasts four freshman, four sophomores, one junior and three seniors. Four of the 12 players were fellow teammates on the  Chaminade varsity tennis team in Mineola, N.Y.
