Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross swimming and diving teams took on Providence College on Wednesday night. The Crusader women battled to a tie at 120 points as the men fell to the Friars 123-99.
Leading the women's team with victories in their respective events were freshman Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.), sophomore Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) and senior captains Emily Ferris (Rockville Center, N.Y.) and Allison Yoho (New Fairfield, Conn.). Meanwhile, the women's 400-yard freestyle relay team also took first place in 3:51.33. Members of the team are Caitlin Duggan (Norwood, Mass.), Katherin McGovern (Manchester, Conn.), Kaitlyn McCrossen (New Windsor, N.Y.), and Dana Jorgensen (New City, N.Y.)
Yoho took first in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 153.3 while her classmate Ferris was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:14.57.Alanis won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:13.05 and Doherty won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.74.
On the men's side, one of the two individual wins on the night was by Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) in the 200-yard butterfly. Jackson won by over two seconds in a time of 2:10.28. Andy Lovley (Wrentham, Mass.)also recieved first place points in the one-meter dive.
The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team won their event in a time of 3:23.61. Team members are Matthew Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.), Hugh Hayden (Lincolnshire, Ill.), Christopher Smith (West Haven, Conn.) and Kevin Kitson (Chappaqua, N.Y.).
Both swimming and diving teams will compete next at home on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2:00 p.m. The Crusaders will take on Maine in their last home meet before the holiday break.
