Durham, N.H. - The Holy Cross (0-2) men's swimming and diving team fell to New Hampshire (1-2) in their first road meet of the season.
Sophomore Christopher Smith (West Haven, Conn.) swam to two second place finishes in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle with times of 5:12.51 and 10:43.98, respectively. It was not enough as New Hampshire swept all of the swimming events to get the win 124-97.
Brian Hendrickson (West Hartford, Conn.), Matthew Frigault (East Freetown, Mass.), Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Matthew Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) teamed up for a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:47.18, less than two seconds behind the leaders. Smith, Hendrickson, Hugh Hayden (Lincolnshire, Ill.) and Kevin Kitson (Chappaqua, N.Y.) also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Hayden (50-yard freestyle), Jackson (200-yard butterfly), Kitson (200-yard backstroke), Grogan (100-yard freestyle) and James McCullough (Orefield, Pa) all were runners-up in their individual meets. McCullough competed in the 200-yard IM.
The Holy Cross men's and women's teams will compete next on Friday, Nov. 11 at home against Army. The meet will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Hart Center Pool.
