Springfield, Mass. - The Holy Cross swimming and diving teams both fell to Springfield College, Wednesday night in Springfield, Mass. The Crusader women would win two events in the losing effort, while the Holy Cross men would win one. Springfield won the men's competition 138 to 103. The Pride took the women's competition 136 to the Crusader's 103.
Anchored by co-captains junior Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) and junior Erica Archer (Schenectady, N.Y.), the Crusaders won the 200 yard medley relay by nearly three seconds. Freshman Lauren Tatro (Charlotte, N.C.) was the first swimmer in the pool, followed by freshman Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.). Doherty and Archer would take the last two legs of the relay to give the Crusaders a final time of 1:53.87 and the victory. Doherty would see victory again in the 200 yard butterfly. Doherty covered the 200 yards in 2:14.81, edging out her competition by only 1.85 seconds. Junior captain Rachel Quaden (Chelmsford, Mass.) would come in third in the event with a time of 2:21.52.
In the men's competition, senior captain Brian Jackson (Pheonixville, Pa.) would see the lone victory on the men's side, winning the 200 yard butterfly. Jackson finished the race in 2:07.64, beating his closest opponent by 1.13. Senior captain Kevin Mullaney (Livingston, N.J.) would take third in the event with a time of 2:15.51.
Holy Cross will host Patriot League rival Bucknell on Saturday, October 28 in Worcester, Mass. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 pm in the Hart Center Pool.
