Fairfield, Conn. - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Fairfield University to compete in their first meet of the year. Both teams put up a good fight but Fairfield would pull out a victory over the Crusaders. The women won five of the events they competed in including the 800m free, 200m IM, 100m fly, 100m breast, and 3 meter diving. The men pulled out four event wins in the 800m free, 100m fly, 100m breast, and 400m free relay.
Freshman Molly O'Brien was one of the members of the women's team to take an event at the meet, winning the 800m free with a time of 9:59.17. Other first place finishers included Rachel Quaden in the 100m fly with a time of 1:09.98 and Rachel Martinez in the 3 meter diving with a score of 219.53. Her teammate Maggie Gousman, a sophomore, would take two events in the meet winning the 200m IM with a time of 2:32.19 and the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:18.12.
On the men's side sophomore Aaron Brosnan would take a first in the 100m fly with a time of 1:00.87 and teammate Brian Livingston would take a first in the 100m breast stroke with a time of 1:11.77. Senior teammate Chris Smith would have two event firsts for the day. The 800m free with a time of 9:19.61 and in the 400m free relay with teammates Michael Dougher, Joseph McShane, and Ian MacLaren in a time of 3:55.00.
The Crusaders will be hosting their next competition, against Springfield College on Wednesday, October 24th at 6pm.
