Swimming & Diving Teams Take Eighth at Patriot League Championship

Lewisburg, Pa. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving both took eighth at the 2007 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend, held at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. The United States Naval academy won both titles after leading the entire meet. The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team earned a total of 126 points over the three day event as the women's team earned 144 points in the Championship.
In the women's meet, the Crusaders got off to a strong start, taking sixth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Juniors Erica Archer (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) and freshman Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) and Alisha Carrazza (Boonton Township, N.J.) teamed up to cover the distance in 1:40.36. The 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Lauren Tatro (Charlotte, N.C.), Gousman, Doherty and Archer placed seventh, finishing in 4:07.97. The same team would swim in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in eighth spot with a time of 1:52.59.
In the individual events, Carrazza took 16th in the200-yard freestyle in 1:57.89. Gousman took 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke, making her the highest placing Crusader swimmer in either meet. Gousman would also take 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke. She finished in 2:31.47. Sophomore Katie Duffy (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) placed 21st in the 165-yard freestyle event. She finished in 21:43.22.
In the men's meet, the Crusader 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass.), freshman Brian Livingston (Auburn, Wa.), senior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) and junior Chris Smith (West Haven, Conn.) took sixth place with a time of 3:39.61. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, freshman Michael Dougher (Amhers, N.Y.), sophomores Ian MacLaren and Rob Acker and junior Chris Smith teamed up to take seventh place in 1:30.33. Brosnan, Livingston, Jackson and Dougher would compete in the 200-yard medley relay, taking eighth place in 1:40.89.
In the individual events, Brosnan placed 14th in the 100-yard butterfly. His time of 52.48 narrowly edged out a swimmer from Colgate. Brosnan also took 14th place in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the pad in 55.42. Smith took 14th in the 1650 freestyle event. He finished in 17:00.44. Freshman Ryan Boate (Pleasantville, N.Y.) took 20th in the event with a time of 17:33.08. Jackson placed 16th in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming the distance in 2:01.45.
In the men's diving events, freshman Joshua Rodriguez (Dudley, Mass.) placed 17th with a point total of 126.90 points on six dives in the 3-meter diving event. Sophomore Conor O'Neil (Concord, N.H.) took 19th, totaling 93.25 points.
Freshman Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed tenth on the 1-meter diving board, earning 193.70 points. Martinez placed seventh off of the 3-meter board, accumulating 221.60 points on six dives.
Both Crusader swimming and diving teams have concluded the 2006-2007 season.
