JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Both the Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams locked up victories at Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon. The men's team won their first meet of the season as the women got win number two.
The Crusader men won narrowly by a margin of 115-114 and were led by a team first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:44.16. Freshman Kevin Kitson (Chappaqua, N.Y.), senior Brian Laws (Singapore), junior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) and senior Hugh Hayden (Lincolnshire, Ill.) were all members of the team.
Individually, sophomore Christopher Smith (West Haven, Conn.) picked up a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:37.98. Also, freshman Matthew Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.86.
For the women, junior Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) led the way to a 121-71 victory. Doherty won two individual events including the 200-yard IM (2:17.89) and the 100-yard freestyle (56.11).
Other winners for the Crusader women were senior Emily Ferris (Rockville Center, N.Y.) in the 100-yard butterfly, freshman Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.) in the 1000-yard freestyle, sophomore Amanda Duggan (Saddie River, N.J.) in the 200-yard freestyle, and freshman Caitlin Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) in the 50-yard freestyle.
Junior Aislinn Kelly (Sandwich, Mass.) also won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 179.18.
The Crusader men will travel to Boston College for a meet on Tuesday, February 7 at 6:00 p.m. The women have finished their regular season.
