Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team was edged by the narrowest of margins, falling to WPI in the Worcester City Championship by a single point, 364-363. Clark rounded out the field with 288 points.
On the men's side WPI led after Friday's first 10 events but Holy Cross came back to take the lead after the morning events, only to fall by one point.
Freshman James McCullough (Orefield, Pa.) won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:11.73 in just the second men's individual competition of the day. The Crusaders would go on to take control during the second day of events until a late surge by WPI.
Junior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) put together another strong performance in the 200-yard butterfly, winning with a time of 2:07.00. Jackson was also a member of the men's 200-yard medley relay team that was victorious, finishing in 1:43.76.
The Crusader 200-yard freestyle relay team also took first with a time of 1:31.99.
Holy Cross was unable to get a victory in more than one Saturday afternoon event. Senior Hugh Hayden (Lincolnshire, Ill.) got the lone victory in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.18.
The Holy Cross men will return to action on Tuesday, January 31 at 6:00 p.m. when they host Connecticut in the final home meet of the season at the Hart Center.
