Swimming & Diving Sunk By UConn

Storrs, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team lost to the UConn Huskies 156-104 on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders would take five events from the Huskies on the day. Freshman Brian Livingston (Auburn, Wash.) won the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:08.58. Livingston's classmate Michael Ragone (New Rochelle, N.Y.) took second in the event in 1:12.15 as senior Matt Frigault (East Freetown, Mass.) took third in 1:12.40. Seniors Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Kevin Mullaney (Livingston, N.J.) led the Crusaders in the 50 yard butterfly. Jackson finished in 26.10 and in first as Mullaney finished in 27.29 and in second. Sophomore Sean O'Reilly (Bronx, N.Y.) took third in the event, finishing in 29.32.

Freshman Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass.) won the 400 yard IM in 4:34.36. Sophomores Matthew Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) and Mike Marquet (Reston, Va.) took second and third, finishing in 4:39.06 and 5:27.20, respectively.

Freshman diver Joshua Rodriguez (Dudley, Mass.) won the 3M diving event, accumulating 134.09 points on six dives. Rodriquez also took fifth on the 1M diving board, earning 132.97 points.

The Holy Cross 200 yard relay team of junior Chris Smith (West Haven, Conn.), sophomore Rob Acker (Ames, Iowa), sophomore David Drummond (Swampscott, Mass.) and Grogan took first, completing the relay in 1:34.05. The team of sophomore Ian MacLaren (Cortez, Colo.), freshman Michael Dougher (Amhers, N.Y.), freshman Joseph McShane (Chatham, N.J.) and Jackson took second in 1:37.01. In third, the team of sophomore John Ringwood (Cheshire, Conn.), freshman Stefan Opolski (Haverhill, Mass.), sophomore Dan Kennedy (Bolton, Conn.) and junior Shannon Sweeny (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished in 1:40.55.

Other Crusader highlights: Smith finished the 500 yard freestyle in 5:05.26 and in third place as teammate Grogan took fourth in the event in 5:13.16. Acker placed fourth in the 50 yard backstroke, touching the pad in 28.54. Sophomore Brian Hendrickson (West Hartford, Conn.) took fifth in that event, finishing in 29.18. Brosnan took sixth, covering the 50 yards in 30.52.

Livingston placed third in the 50 yard breaststroke in 30.51. Frigault was fourth, finishing close behind Livingston in 30.83. Senior Steve Lawlor (Farmington, Conn.) was sixth, finishing in 31.69. Jackson claimed fourth in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in 57.57. Mullaney and O'Reilly finished in fifth and six, in 1:00.32 and 1:07.11, respectively.

The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team is set to host the Worcester City Championships, which begin Friday, January 26 at 5:00pm at the Hart Center Pool.
