Men's Swimming Loses to BU, 136-87

Boston, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team returned to competition after a month long break, taking on Boston University in Boston, Mass. on Tuesday night. The Crusaders took two events from the Terriers before suffering a 136-87 loss. Freshman Brian Livingston (Auburn, Wash.) won the 100 yard breaststroke, giving the Crusaders their only individual event win on the day. Holy Cross would also win the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Livingston's time of 1:07.15 narrowly edged out his teammate senior Matt Frigault (East Freetown, Mass.), who finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke. Friagult's final time was 1:07.41. Junior Chris Smith (West Haven, Conn.) took second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 10:35.33. Freshman Ryan Boate (Pleasantville, N.Y.) took third in the event with 11:05.51. Sophomore Matt Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) swam the 200 yard freestyle in 1:54.22, taking third place.

Sophomore Rob Acker (Ames, Iowa) swam the 50 yard freestyle in 23.69, finishing .67 behind the event winner from BU. Freshman Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass.) took third place in the 200 IM, covering the yardage in 2:05.62. In the 100 yard butterfly, senior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) placed second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.74. Fellow senior Kevin Mullaney took fourth in the event with a final time of 59.64.

Sophomore Brian Hendrickson (West Hartford, Conn.) took home two points for the Crusaders by finishing fourth in the 100 yard backstroke. Hendrickson's time of 1:01.64 was just .61 ahead of teammate freshman Stephan Opolski (Haverhill, Mass.), who took fifth. Smith swam 500 yard freestyle in 5:09.23, earning a solid second place finish. Boate took fourth in 5:27.72.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Smith, Grogan, Acker and sophomore James McCullough (Orefield, Pa.) took 11 points home by winning a the relay in 3:27.89. In the 200 yard medley relay, Brosnan, Livingston, Jackson and sophomore David Drummond (Swampscott, Mass.) touched the pad just .04 seconds behind a team from BU to finish second. The team of Crusaders finished the event in 1:27.05

Freshman Joshua Rodriguez (Dudley, Mass.) took second in both diving events, earning 142.73 points in the 1mtr and 168.15 points in the 3mtr events.
