Most recently Emmons served as a head coach at Barnstable (Mass.) High School for the boy's swimming and diving team. He helped the Red Raiders to a 6-4 record in 2004-05 and helped each swimmer achieve their personal best times in at least three events. Also Emmons was the Aquatics Director for the Cape Cod Swim Club Camp during the summer of 2002 and 2003 where he focused on supervision and the development of proper technique. During the summer of 1999 Emmons coached the Middleboro YMCA Development Team where he developed the skills of young swimmers who previously had little or no diving experience in the pool. Since 1998 he has served as a lifeguard and swim instructor at several places including the Hopewell Community Pool. While swimming at Holy Cross from 1999-2003, Emmons put together a very illustrious career. The seven individual records that he still holds include the 500, 1000, and 1650 meter freestyle, the 100 and 200 meter fly and the 200 and 400 meter individual medley. Along with former teammates Steve Finnochi, Ian Hennessey and Scott Rimm, Emmons still maintains the 400 meter medley relay and the 200, 400 and 800 meter free relay records. Emmons earned his bachelor of arts in math from Holy Cross in 2003.
