  • The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team will open the 2012-2013 season on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20, at the New England Catholic Invitational hosted by Boston College. The meet will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and continue at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
  • This will be the second straight season the Crusaders compete at the New England Catholic Invitational. Last year, Holy Cross tallied 14 top-five finishes. The 400 freestyle relay team consisting of senior Ned Supple (Needham, Mass.), senior John Vatalaro (Strongsville, Ohio), junior Ben Chelmow (Newton, Mass.) and senior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.) finished first overall. Senior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) took second in the 500 freestyle with juniors Kevin O'Connor (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Zachary Cietek (Guilderland, N.Y.) finishing in fourth and fifth, respectively. Junior Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) added a pair of third place finishes in 100 and 200 yard backstrokes. Junior diver Nick Videtti (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) faced some tough competition, diving against athletes from Boston College and Iona, and finished second in the three-meter dive and third in the one-meter dive. He was one of three divers to score over 200 points in both dives.
  • Last week, the Crusaders opened the season against Fairfield at the Hart Pool. The team fell by a close score of 165-132, marking the best result against Fairfield since a 119-117 loss in 2007. Videtti finished first in the one-meter dive and earned league recognition by taking home Patriot League Diver of the Week honors. It was the first time in his career he was named Diver of the Week, as Videtti improved his best score in the one-meter dive by just over 12 points.
  • The Crusaders will be on the road for the next six competitions. The team will then return home for the second and final home meet of the season, taking on Bryant at the Hart Pool Feb. 2, 2013, before heading to the Patriot League Championship on Feb. 21-23.
