ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team competed in the final day of events at the Patriot League Championship Saturday. Junior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.) broke the school record in the 1,650 yard freestyle by four seconds with a time of 16:42.43. Junior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) qualified for the evening session for the second day in a row finishing with a time of 2:07.89 in the 200 yard breaststroke and 13th place in the preliminary heats. In the evening heat Power finished with a time of 2:07.65 and 12th overall.
Sophomore Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) led the way for the Crusaders in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.14 and 21st place finish. Freshman Michael Brower (Falling Waters, W.Va.) also took 21st place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.91. Junior Ned Supple (Needham, Mass.) led the Crusaders in the 100 yard freestyle finishing at 50.46. The 400 yard freestyle team consisting of Yburan, junior John Vatalaro (Strongsville, Ohio), Supple and Lyons finished with a time of 3:17.53.
On the diving side, sophomore Nick Videtti (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) competed in the three-meter dive and finished 17th with a score of 165.60.
Navy took home the Patriot League Championship with a first place team total of 1029.5 points. Bucknell finished second with 638.5 points followed by Army in third with 534.5.
The Patriot League Championship marks the conclusion of the 2011-2012 men's swimming and diving season.
