Men's Swimming & Diving Prepares For Meet At Bryant

  • The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team will travel to Smithfield, R.I. on Saturday, Feb. 4, to take on Bryant in head-to-head competition. Last season, the Crusaders suffered a 170-94 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs at the Hart Center on Feb. 5, 2011. Holy Cross has yet to defeat Bryant since their first meeting during the 2008-2009 season.
  • At the 2011 meet, junior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) led the way for the Crusaders placing first in the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststrokes. Sophomore Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) also added a first place finish for Holy Cross in the 100 yard backstroke.
  • The Crusaders fell to Providence in its final home meet of the season at the Hart Center on Saturday, Jan. 28, 191-100. Prior to the meet, head coach Barry Parenteau, diving coach Wilson Aybar and assistant coach Ian Hennessey honored the team's two seniors, Michael Burns (East Amherst, N.Y.) and Patrick McMahon (Middletown, N.Y.), along with 11 seniors on the women's team.
  • Power took the top spot in the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes with times of 1:02.55 and 2:17.25 and Burns finished just behind him in the 200 with a time of 2:20.02 to secure the top two spots for the Crusaders in the event. Also finishing first was the 400 yard freestyle relay team comprised of junior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.), sophomore Ben Chelmow (Newton, Mass.), sophomore Zachary Cietek (Guilderland, N.Y.) and junior John Vatalaro (Strongsville, Ohio) with a time of 3:29.35.
