WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's swimming & diving team won eight events, including a sweep in both the one meter diving and three meter diving events, as it finished first at the 11th annual Worcester City Championship held at the Hart Center. Holy Cross finished first with 510 points, while WPI finished second with 495 points and Clark took third with 424. Sophomore diver Nick Videtti (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) was named the Diver of the Meet as he won the one meter diving event with a score of 199.42 and the three meter diving event with a score of 211.88.
Junior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) won the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:27.88 and 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.94 to lead the Crusaders. Freshman Jack Swain (West Hartford, Conn.) took first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.08 and sophomore Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.28 seconds.
The Crusaders were able to take home the title in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:42.16 and won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.59. The winning team in the 400 consisted of Yburan, Power, freshman Michael Brower (Falling Waters, W.Va.) and junior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.). The winning team in the 200 consisted of Yburan, Power, Brower and junior John Vatalaro (Strongsville, Ohio).
The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team will continue action next week when it meets Providence in Worcester on Jan. 28 for a dual meet with the Friars.
