Crusaders Prepare For Worcester City Championship

  • The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team returns to competition on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 20-21 for the 11th Annual Worcester City Championship at the Hart Center. Friday's session is set to start at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday's first session will start at 10:00 a.m. and the final session will start at 3:00 p.m.
  • Last season, the Crusaders finished second of three. WPI won the team competition with 394.5 points, Holy Cross finished second with 368.5 points and Clark took third with 284 points. Holy Cross won five events, including a sweep in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Holy Cross swept the 100 breast with junior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) taking first with a meet-record time of 1:02.26, sophomore Tim Liddy (Garden City, N.Y.) finishing second with a time of 1:04.92 and senior Michael Burns (East Amherst N.Y.) placing third with a time of 1:05.57. The trio replicated the feat in the 200 breast with Power finishing first with a time of 2:17.05, Liddy in second with a time of 2:22.31 and Burns in third with a time of 2:24. Junior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.) won the 1,650 with a time of 17:50.33 and 2011 graduate Sean Hager (Westfield, N.J.) earned a top finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:35.02.The win for WPI marked its sixth; Holy Cross has claimed four.
