Swimming & Diving Teams Continue Action At Patriot League Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Gael Carter (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) each broke a school record as the Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the second day of action at the Patriot League Championship on Friday. The men's team also broke a school record in the 200 medley relay, while the women's team set a new school record in the 800 free relay. Carter finished with a school record time in the 100 fly, while Power hit a school record mark in the 100 breast. After two days of action, Navy leads the men's team competition with 668 points, while Colgate leads the women's teams with 556 points.

Carter hit the school record mark in the 100 fly in the preliminary round of competition, finishing 20th overall with a school record time of 58.65 seconds. Carter finished 11th in the 100 back with a time of 58.62 seconds after breaking the school record in the event with a time of 58.31 seconds during Thursday's competition. Power broke the school record in the 100 breast in the preliminaries and then bettered the time in the finals, finishing 10th overall with a time of 58.47 seconds.

Senior Erin Meegan (Woodbine, Md.) earned team points with a 16th place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:54.58. Senior Sarah Kearns (Marion, Mass.) also won team points with a 13th place finish in the one meter diving competition with 192.15 points. The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Kristen Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine), sophomore Natalie Livingston (Auburn, Wash.), Carter and junior Maggie Beaudouin (Madison, N.J.) finished eighth with a time of 1:51.92. The 800 free relay team of Beaudouin, junior Annie O'Shea (Washington, D.C.), sophomore Gina Mannix (Larchmont, N.Y.) and Desrosiers finished seventh with a time of 7:52.10, breaking the Holy Cross school record set in 1992.

The men's relay team of freshman Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.), Power, senior Nick Larsen (Whitman, Mass.) and sophomore John Vatalaro (Strongsville, Ohio) finished eighth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.15, setting a new school record. The 800 free relay team of sophomore Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.), sophomore Edward Supple (Needham, Mass.), freshman Kevin O'Connor (Ridgewood, N.J.) and senior Sean Hager (Westfield, N.J.) finished eighth with a time of 7:21.86.
