Swimming & Diving Competes In Day One Of Patriot League Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Alisha Carrazza (Boonton Township, N.J.) qualified for the finals in two events to lead the Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams in the first day of competition at the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championship in Annapolis, Md. Thursday. After 11 events, both teams are in seventh place, while Navy is leading both the men's and women's team competition.

Carrazza placed 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.69. Carrazza qualified for the finals with a season-best and personal-best time of 2:10.51. In the 50 free, Carrazza finished in 13th place with a time of 24.70 seconds, again swimming a personal-best and season-best time of 24.61 seconds in the preliminary round.

The women's team kicked off the final events with a seventh place finish in the 200 free relay. Sophomore Maggie Beaudouin (Madison, N.J.), junior Gael Carter (Tampa, Fla.), senior Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) and Carrazza teamed up to finish with a time of 1:38.75. On the three meter board, senior Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) narrowly missed qualifying for the finals, placing ninth with a score of 211.20. The relay team of Carter, Gousman, freshman Kristen Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine) and Carrazza wrapped up the first day of competition with an eighth place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:59.38.

The men's team picked up its first points of the day in the 200 free relay. Freshman Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.), freshman Edward Supple (Needham, Mass.), junior Nick Larsen (Whitman, Mass.) and freshman John Vatalaro (Strongsville, Ohio) teamed up to take eighth place with a time of 1:32.00. The Crusaders picked up more points at the end of the meet in the 400 medley relay, placing seventh with a time of 3:42.48. Sophomore Connor Bowman (Princeton, N.J.), freshman Brian Power (Southport, Conn.), Larsen and senior Joseph McShane (Chatham, N.J.) teamed up to finish with a season-best time.

Holy Cross will continue action at the Patriot League Championship tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m.
