Worcester, Mass. - Junior goalkeeper Richard Whipple has been named the BRINE Defensive Player of the Week in the Patriot League for his performance in games from September 20th-September 26th, in which the Holy Cross men's soccer team went 1-0-1. This is the first League award in Whipple's career.
On Tuesday (Sept. 21), Whipple recorded a non-league shutout victory over Northeastern, 2-0. He was credited with seven saves in the game. Whipple also posted a tie in the team's first Patriot League game on Saturday (Sept. 25) during a 1-1 contest against Lehigh in which he made six stops.
In six games this season, Whipple has allowed just three goals and is tops in the Patriot League with a .047 goals against average. He has three shutouts, and is fourth in the league with 4.67 saves per game.
The Crusaders travel to Hartford University on Tuesday September 28 for a 7:00 pm match.
