Jerry Dickinson Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior defender Jerry Dickinson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named the 2008 Patriot League Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year, presented during tonight's Patriot League tournament banquet. Earlier in the week, Dickinson was named to the All-League First Team for the first time in his career. In 2007, he was named to the All-League second team.

Starting in all 17 games this year, the three-time captain led the Crusader defense 20th best in the nation in goals against average (0.71), 27th in save percentage (0.831), 31st in shutout percentage (0.47) and 42nd in winning percentage (0.647). On offense, Dickinson is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and one assist for five points, including one game-winning goal. He received his first career ECAC and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of September 15, after rallying Holy Cross to a 3-2 win over Northeastern, scoring two goals. Dickinson becomes the third Holy Cross player to be recognized with this honor, joining former Crusaders Bryant Clark '98 and Rusty Giudici '02.

The Crusaders will play in the upcoming Patriot League tournament in Hamilton, N.Y. from November 14-16. Holy Cross is the No. 3 seed and will face second-seeded American on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinals. No. seed Colgate will take on fourth-seeded Lafayette in the matinee game on Friday, starting at 4:00 p.m. The Championship game will be held at Colgate on Sunday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m.
