Easton, Pa. - Freshman forward Stefan McVeigh scored two goals to lead the Lafayette men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over the visiting Holy Cross Crusaders in a Patriot League match-up on Saturday afternoon. Holy Cross falls to 6-5-1 (1-3-1), while the Leopards improve to 10-3 (4-1).
McVeigh's first tally came just before half time when he headed a direct kick by Nathan Jolly into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute. The score remained 1-0 at intermission, with both teams registering four shots in the first.
The Leopards would then take a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute on McVeigh's second goal of the game. McVeigh gathered a Buster Wiand cross and beat Crusader keeper Richard Whipple to give the Leopards an insurance goal and preserve the win.
Holy Cross was outshot 13-5 on the afternoon. Whipple made two saves on the day for the Crusaders.
Holy Cross travels to Maine (Portland) for a 7 p.m., non-conference contest on Tuesday, October 26th.
