Sept. 25, 2004
Bethlehem, Pa. - After 110 minutes of play, the Holy Cross and Lehigh men's soccer teams had to settle for a 1-1 tie to open up the 2004 Patriot League season for both squads.
Holy Cross moves to 4-1-1 (0-0-1) on the season, and Lehigh moves to 4-2-1 (0-0-1).
The game remained scoreless through the half and well into the second, until freshman Patrick Starsinic put a Joe Clemente pass in the back of the net in the 73rd minute of play to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead.
The Crusaders did not waste any time getting back into the game, however. Just three minutes after the Mountain Hawks score, junior Anthony Cinelli (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) tied the game at one-apiece off of a free kick just outside the 18-yard line after a Lehigh foul.
Lehigh outshot the Crusaders 14-7 on the afternoon, and held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks, but the score would remain deadlocked throughout the end of regulation and two ten minute overtime periods.
Junior Richard Whipple made 6 saves on the day for the Crusaders. Lehigh's Sam Bishop recorded 3 saves.
Holy Cross travels to the University of Hartford on Tuesday, September 28 for a 7 pm matchup.
