Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's soccer team won its fourth straight game with a 2-0 win over Northeastern University in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at the Hart Soccer Field.
The Crusaders improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Huskies drop to 1-5.
The Crusaders scored both goals in the first half and were able to hold off the pesky Huskies for the remainder of the game behind the big-time play of junior keeper Richard Whipple (Columbus, Ga.).
In the 24th minute, sophomore Alex Cruz (Conyers, Ga.) gave the Crusaders the only goal they would need after a nice cross from senior Geoff O'Connell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) found Cruz break away down the opposite sideline. Cruz beat two defenders on his way to the net and slipped a low shot into the left corner past Northeastern keeper Sergio Saccoccio.
Just over ten minutes later, freshman Sefton Kincaid (Orlando, Fla.) scored his first collegiate goal from just outside the 18-yard line to seal the deal for the Crusaders.
Whipple made 7 saves in goal for Holy Cross, good enough for his third shutout of the season. Saccoccio recorded 11 saves for the Huskies.
Holy Cross travels to Lehigh University on Saturday, September 25 to begin Patriot League play. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
