Sept. 14, 2004

Fairfield, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's soccer team won its third straight game, defeating Sacred Heart University 2-1 in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders improve to 3-1 on the season, while Sacred Heart drops to 0-5.

The Crusaders came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie the game in the 53rd minute when junior Kevin Leonard (Unionville, Conn.) set up sophomore Josh Trott (Glen Cove, N.Y.) for the equalizer.

Holy Cross then took the lead for good on freshman Chidie Okpoebo's (Chelmsford, Mass.) first collegiate goal. Okpoebo tallied the game-winner in the 75th minute when he beat Pioneer keeper Matthew Weston off a pass from William Walker (Midland, Ga.). The Pioneers had multiple chances to get back into the game, but the Holy Cross defenders denied them each time.

Junior keeper Richard Whipple (Columbus, Ga.) made three saves in goal for the Crusaders to solidify the win. Weston had five saves on the afternoon.

The Crusaders travel to Central Connecticut for a 2:00 p.m. game on Saturday.
