Holy Cross Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision To Colgate
Nov. 5, 2005
Worcester, Mass. - Junior forward Devin Deane scored the game's only goal and the Colgate defense was able to hold off Holy Cross for a 1-0 Raider victory in Patriot League men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. Holy Cross finishes the season with an overall mark of 8-8 (2-5 Patriot League), while the Raiders' (9-6-3, 4-3 Patriot) hopes of making next week's Patriot League tournament are still alive.
With the win, Colgate can clinch a berth in the tournament with a Bucknell loss to Navy or a Lafayette tie with Lehigh.
Deane headed a Charlie Lambropoulos ball into the back of the net off of an indirect kick from the left corner at the 80:47 mark for what would be the game-winning goal.
Holy Cross had a 10-4 shot advantage, three of which were on goal, but it could not get anything going offensively.
Holy Cross senior keeper Richard Whipple (Columbus, Ga.) made one save on the day, while Doug Litvack came up with three stops for the Raiders.
Today's game marked the final match in the collegiate careers of Crusader seniors Gamal Baker (Columbus, Ga.), Anthony Cinelli (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), Kevin Leonard (Unionville, Conn.), William Walker (Midland, Ga.) and Whipple.
