WORCESTER, Mass. - Andre Akpan scored two goals and had one assist as the Holy Cross men's soccer team fell to Harvard, 3-0, at the Linda Johnson Soccer Smith Stadium Tuesday night. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-3-3 (3-0-1 Patriot League) while the Crimson improve to 7-3-0 (3-0-0 Ivy League).
Harvard struck first in the 25th minute of the first half, at the 24:18 mark, when Akpan passed to Michael Fucito for the score in the low right corner of the net, giving Harvard the 1-0 lead.
Heading into the 69th minute, at the 68:04 mark, John Stamatis crossed the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box to Akpan, who chipped the ball into the right side of the goal, giving the Crimson a 2-0 lead. With less than three minutes left in the game, at the 88:37 mark, Stamatis sent a long cross from the left side to Akpan, sending the ball into the net, making the final score, 3-0.
Harvard's Austin Harms had one save and earned his fourth shutout of the season.
The men's soccer team returns to Patriot League action on Saturday, October 25, when they travel to American for a 2:00 p.m. game.
