WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore forward Kyle Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) scored a hat trick as the Holy Cross men's soccer team defeated Navy, 4-0, in a Patriot League contest Saturday afternoon at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. With the victory, the Crusaders improve to 7-2-3 (3-0-1 Patriot League) while the Midshipmen fall to 4-9-2 (0-3-0).
Holy Cross struck early in the first half, at the 2:31 mark, as senior midfielder Andreas Andrews (Los Angeles, Calif.) crossed the ball to Miller inside the 18-yard box and headed it into the left side of the net. Less than 14 minutes later, at the 16:19 mark, senior defender Jerry Dickinson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) headed the ball to Miller who headed the ball into the ride corner of the net, making the score 2-0.
Just under two minutes later, at the 18:06 mark, sophomore midfielder Philippe Candido (Lowell, Mass.) sprinted from the center of the field, down into the box and chipped a shot into the right corner of the net, giving the Crusaders a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Less than three minutes into the second half, at the 47:28 mark, Miller grabbed a rebounded off a save by Midshipmen goalkeeper Nolan Grebb and chipped into the right corner of the goal, making the final score, 4-0.
Junior goalkeeper Thomas Booth (Patchogue, N.Y.) made seven saves for Holy Cross while Grebb had seven stops and Tyler Bristol made two saves.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 21, as they host Harvard with a game scheduled at 7:00 p.m.
