Annapolis, Md. - The Holy Cross men's soccer team lost its fourth straight game with a tough 3-1 loss to Navy in Patriot League action on Sunday afternoon. Holy Cross drops to 5-6 (0-3 Patriot League), while the Mids improve to 7-4 (2-1 Patriot League) on the season.
Holy Cross got on the board first when sophomore forward Marsalis Beckford (Brantford, Ontario) scored on an unassisted effort to put the Crusaders up 1-0 just 5:59 into the match.
But Navy fought back and scored two goals less than four minutes apart to take a 2-1 lead just before the break. Anthony Parker evened the score at 1-1 when he controlled a cross by Kris Huff and found the back of the net in the 40th minute. Eric Gorden then scored the eventual game-winner at the 43:42 mark when he converted on a give-and-go with Zach Capacete.
The Mids got an insurance goal from Kenan Knieriem in the 89th minute to seal the win.
Holy Cross had a 19-16 shot advantage and had twice as many corners (6-3) as Navy.
Holy Cross senior goalie Richard Whipple made three saves, while Thomas Jenkins finished with five stops for the Mids.
The Crusaders return home for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match-up with New Hampshire on Tuesday, October 11.
